What a fabulous BDO!
Today we had an amazing day at Orana Park - the weather was fantastic and the learning was even better! Look at the photos taken by Becky and Mrs Brown. Talk to your child about the animals in the pictures and see what information they can tell you about them, following our day of great learning! Thank you so much to the parents who came to help - Aloma, Ginny, Becky and Nicky! We couldn't do these trips without our wonderful parent helpers!

A Special Olympian
The year 3 team were visited by Andrew who competed in the Special Olympics in Athens. Andrew shared his experiences of being selected for the NZ team and winning 2 gold medals. The first medal was for the shot put and the second one was for the 4 x 100m relay, where Andrew ran the final leg clinching the gold medal for the team. Andrew started doing athletics when he was at primary school, but it was when he was 13 years old that he found out about the Special Olympics and from then on it was his goal to compete there. Andrew demonstrated how he used the 'Key Competencies' to achieve his goal.
He showed us:
He showed us:
- effort and dedication - to keep up with the training even when things get a bit hard
- perseverance - even when someone looks a lot taller than you, you should never give up
- being proud of your achievements
Andrew was extremely proud of his achievements.

MUFTI
This Thursday (19th March) is a mufti day. Gold coin donations will go to help the people of Vanuatu.
ASB - Getwise Programme
Today an educator from ASB visited Room 16. We learned about the difference between an Eftpos card and a credit card and how it is important to pay the credit card amount off in time.
We also thought about some ways we could earn money and as children some of us do chores to get pocket money.
To be money wise we need to take our time and shop around before we buy, so that we pay the lowest price.
Great website...
Keep checking our 'Tips for Parents' page - we are adding useful websites for you to use at home to support your child's learning!

Peter Pan
Ben Ashby, the actor who played Peter Pan in the recent production at Riccarton Bush came in to talk to the children about his experience. He spoke about the auditions, scripting the play, rehearsals as well as actually performing to an audience. The children asked him some interesting questions about Peter Pan and a few lucky children got to try on his waistcoat.
