Jump Jam

The whole school kick started the day with a Jump Jam session taken by a group of Jump Jam leaders from the Year 3/4 syndicates, including Lily and Vili from our class.

Tagxedo

Please check out the children's wonderful tagxedos which are now displayed in our cloakroom. They really enjoyed brainstorming things that were important or special to them and then adding the words to www.tagxedo.com to create their own tagxedo. Once the children had added their words they were then able to select a shape and colour theme.

Maths

In Maths we are learning about Statistics. We started the unit by creating a class pictograph to show which months our birthdays are in. We then worked with a buddy to make statements about what our graph showed us, using words like greater than, less than, more, fewer and same as.

What did we get up to today.....

We had a very busy day in Room 16 today!  It has been great getting to know each other.  We are focusing on establishing routines in the classroom and setting up our class culture - the kind of learning environment we want to be a part of!  Here are some of the activities we did today.

We learnt a new game called MIDNIGHT!  Well done to Vili - our Midnight Champion today!

Annabel and Charlotte worked on producing their "Tagxedo Clouds" - which tell us all about us and our favourite things.  These will start to appear in our class during the next few weeks.

We used our handwriting books for the first time! This year we are starting with a focus on:
• holding our pencil correctly
• starting letters in the right place
•sitting letters on the line
• sloping our letters
• using flicks on some letters so that we can lead into linked or cursive writing

Peter Pan

The Year Three teachers are encouraging the children in Year 3 and their families to go along to the Summer Theatre production of Peter Pan. The lead role of Peter Pan is played by a St Albans School old boy, Ben Ashby. It is free and the details of performances are on the photo below or at http://www.courttheatre.org.nz/shows/peter-pan.

Later in the term we are hopeful Ben will come and talk to us about his experiences in the production and how they relate to our topic of Myself as a Learner. Naturally children will be able to relate to this better if they have seen the production.
