Middle Team Tryathlon...

We all had so much fun competing in the Middle Team Tryathlon on Thursday.  For most of us it was the first time we had tried a tryathlon and it really tested our confidence, fitness and risk taking!  Well done to all the Room 16 children - we were very proud of the way you waited right until the end, picked yourselves up when you fell and swam the length of our school pool!
 Waiting patiently for our turn!
Lucy's ready to go!
Jacob gives it the thumbs up!
Saskia and Charlotte are having a lot of fun!
Walking our bikes to the start line
 And Vili is off!
 Go Jackson!
 Harry heads around the bend!

It's neck and neck for Alfie and Harry!

Our own little triathlete...

Well done to Harry for participating in the Wanaka Challenge on the weekend!  A cool swim in the lake, onto the bike and ending with a run ... you'll be ready for our middle team event tomorrow Harry! We are really proud of you!

Year 3-4 Tryathlon...

Tomorrow - THURSDAY - is our Year 3-4 Tryathlon!

Do you know who this very famous New Zealand triathlete is?
Cameron Brown is one of New Zealand's most successful triathletes.  He has won Ironman New Zealand 10 times!  Could there be a budding ironman amongst us!

You need to remember the following things for tomorrow:
•  your bike and helmet - park them outside Room 16 when you get to school
•  your togs and house colours - these can be worn to school but do remember to pack your undies and
   school uniform!!!
•  a great attitude!

Room 16 is the last class to start so I would think that being here by 11.15 should be safe!!!

Aquagym Writing ....

We wrote some fabulous poems about our time at Aquagym today.  Here are a few for you to enjoy!

I see the excited children getting ready to get into the sparkling water.
I hear the teacher say to kick on our backs.
I feel the silky water beneath my toes when I get in the pool.
I smell the water underneath my nose when I glide through the pool.
I taste the water coming in my mouth in the pool as I do my arm circles.
By Mae

I see children waiting in the line excitedly.
I hear the kids chatting away on the bus.
I feel water splashing in my face.
I smell chlorine in the changing rooms.
I taste the water when I accidently swallow it!
By Jackson

I see the instructor waiting patiently for the excited children.
I hear the children chatting like crazy on the bus.
I feel the water making my hair silky as I dolphin dive.
I smell nice chlorine - even thought I know it makes Mrs Brown's eyes water.
I taste warm chlorinated water.

Peter Pan and Mae...

Mae went to see Peter Pan and look who she managed to get snapped with!  This is Ben Ashby who plays the main character.  We might be lucky enough to have him visiting us at St Albans School soon! We will look forward to it!

Week 3 Certificates

Well done to Lily, Asuka and Charlotte for receiving this week's certificates at the Year 3 assembly today.  It was run by Room 16 - well done Lily, Magnus and all our speakers for doing such a great job!

Aquagym

The children had a great first session at Aquagym. When we returned to class we used the iPad to record the children's swimming goal saying what they hoped to achieve by the end of the week. On Friday we will play back their goals and the children can comment on whether they have achieved them, surpassed them or are nearly there.

AQUAGYM

Please remember your togs every day, as we are swimming at Aquagym this week.

Jump Jam

The whole school kick started the day with a Jump Jam session taken by a group of Jump Jam leaders from the Year 3/4 syndicates, including Lily and Vili from our class.

Tagxedo

Please check out the children's wonderful tagxedos which are now displayed in our cloakroom. They really enjoyed brainstorming things that were important or special to them and then adding the words to www.tagxedo.com to create their own tagxedo. Once the children had added their words they were then able to select a shape and colour theme.

Favourite book...

Please remember your favourite book to bring to school so that we can share these with the class!

Maths

In Maths we are learning about Statistics. We started the unit by creating a class pictograph to show which months our birthdays are in. We then worked with a buddy to make statements about what our graph showed us, using words like greater than, less than, more, fewer and same as.

What did we get up to today.....

We had a very busy day in Room 16 today!  It has been great getting to know each other.  We are focusing on establishing routines in the classroom and setting up our class culture - the kind of learning environment we want to be a part of!  Here are some of the activities we did today.

We learnt a new game called MIDNIGHT!  Well done to Vili - our Midnight Champion today!

Annabel and Charlotte worked on producing their "Tagxedo Clouds" - which tell us all about us and our favourite things.  These will start to appear in our class during the next few weeks.

We used our handwriting books for the first time! This year we are starting with a focus on:
• holding our pencil correctly
• starting letters in the right place
•sitting letters on the line
• sloping our letters
• using flicks on some letters so that we can lead into linked or cursive writing

Peter Pan

The Year Three teachers are encouraging the children in Year 3 and their families to go along to the Summer Theatre production of Peter Pan. The lead role of Peter Pan is played by a St Albans School old boy, Ben Ashby. It is free and the details of performances are on the photo below or at http://www.courttheatre.org.nz/shows/peter-pan.

Later in the term we are hopeful Ben will come and talk to us about his experiences in the production and how they relate to our topic of Myself as a Learner. Naturally children will be able to relate to this better if they have seen the production.
