Reading Bingo...

What a lot of great reading happening this week!  We are enjoying seeing and hearing about what reading tasks you are completing.  Here is Annabel reading to her brother inside a hut - two tasks ticked off there Annabel!  George looks like he is really enjoying you reading to him!
Lucy is keeping quite a number of her soft toys entertained with her reading!

Buddy Book Share

Today we visited our buddy class, Room 26, to share some books. We also had teachers from other classes read some stories to us.

Reading Bingo

It has been great to see the children already achieving some of their reading bingo tasks at school today.
Below is a picture of Charlotte completing one of her bingo challenges at home - reading to a cuddly toy.

Book Characters

What an awesome bunch of book characters we had in Room 16 today!
If the children have the book that their character is in we would like them to keep it at school this week, as we will be doing some writing based around their book character.

Making terrariums...

We have a lot of left over succulents so we plan to make some terrariums.  The children will need to bring a glass jar into school next week for us to use in the last week of school.  Mrs Pope (Jackson's Mum) is going to provide us with some of the moss and stones to go in our jars and we already have the succulents.  If your child would like to bring some special little 'ornaments' to go in the jars, then send them along too. Please make sure the glass jar is carefully placed in your child's bag - wrapped in paper would be a good idea. Jam jars, pasta sauce jars or preserving jars are a good size!

Folk Dancing

Today we watched one of the year 3 interchange groups perform a folk dance that they have been learning in our fitness sessions. The dance had quite a few tricky steps and they had to count the correct number of beats to stay to time.

Our new garden...

We have been staring at a 'dirt patch' outside our classroom for a while and wanted to make it look a lot better!  Fortunately Ms Ashby came to our rescue!  We wanted some low maintenance plants and Ms Ashby had a lot of succulents that she wanted to relocate!
We found out that succulents are sometimes known as the 'fat plant' as they have very thick leaves where they store water.  They can survive in very hot and dry climates for a long time.
So this afternoon the wonderful Jules worked with a group of green thumbed members of Room 16 to weed and plant the little area outside our room.  We plan to add more of the succulents we have and then bark over the dirt to keep the weeds down and to keep it looking very smart!
Thank you so much Jules - you're a star! And thank you Ms Ashby for your lovely succulents!

What our garden looked like to start with...
Pulling off the dead leafy parts of the succulents

 Hard at work...
Rory patting the dirt tight in around the succulent

Lily planting with Jules' help!
How our garden looks now! We have more plans for the garden so watch this space!!

Paper Plane fun...

Today we held our Paper Plane Challenge!  Those who wanted to, had prepared a plane at home, after being inspired by Tim, who loved watching the Paper Plane movie.  We had a lot of different planes - and a range of successes!  It was close but in the end it was Jackson's plane that took out the longest journey!  Jackson's dad is a pilot so we do wonder whether he gave Jackson some aeronautical advice!!

 Jackson and his winning place!

Family Treasures...

Thank you Alfie and Saskia for bringing in such interesting items today to share with us.  Alfie had a shovel that was used by his great-great grandfather in WW1.  It was used to dig trenches and could also be used to fight with if he needed to.  We had to be very careful as Mrs Brown showed us how sharp it was!
Saksia brought in beautiful pearls that are very special to her mum and to her.  She told us how pearls are formed within oyster shells.  We enjoyed seeing and hearing about them.

School photos..

School photos are NO longer this FRIDAY!  There is too much happening in our very busy school this week so we will be having our photos in a few weeks time!  We will keep you posted!

Skipping

It has been great to see the progress that the children are making with skipping and using the elastics during fitness. Many children are also choosing to use them at breaktimes.

Paper Plane Challenge...

The Paper Planes movie has proved very popular and after watching it, Tim asked if we could have a class challenge to see who can make a plane that can travel the longest distance!  So why not!
Here are the very simple rules:
1. The plane must be made from a piece of A4 paper.
2.  The spot where the plane first hits the ground is the measuring spot!
3. Challenge day is THURSDAY - I'll try to use the hall.
4.  This is VERY low key - please try to make the plane something your child has produced!
